The original, #1 desert substrate is made from pure calcium carbonate. Our patented formula utilizes FDA approved pigments to provide 11 colors and blends to choose from. Calci-Sand is designed for the incidental ingestion of the substrate by reptiles. CalciSand is not intended to be a supplement, rather a great alternative to play sands and other desert substrates.
T-Rex Calci-Sand is the only substrate for reptiles designed to be not only ingestible, but digestible when swallowed. Many reptiles freely eat particules of sand and other substrates in an effort to gain the calcium that they require.
Calci-Sand allows this process to occur naturally in the vivarium.
T-Rex Calci-Sand (being a mineral) is safe in direct contact with heating elements. It conducts heat well and it is suitable for use with heat mats or cables buried under it to a swallow depth. It does not harbor mites and inhibits the growth of molds or fungus.

Instructions: Pour contents of bag into the bottom of terrarium. Depth of Vita-Sand should be 1.5" (4cm) or less. Do not use under tank or heat pad type heaters if using more than 1.5" (4cm) depth of Vita-Sand.
Clean out debris as needed with sifter, litter scoop, or spoon. Replace Vita-Sand if foul or musty smell persists, or at least every 6 months.
WARNING: If your animals has a propensity for consistent substrate ingestions, we recommend that you:
- Check your husbandry by reading a good reptile book or your specific species, as this could be an indicator of other problems;
- Make sure you are using ZooMed's 10.0UVB, 5.0 UVB or Powersun UV Lamp with your desert species of lizard or tortoise.
- If consistent substrate ingestion persists, you may wish to use ZooMed's Repti Cage carpet instead.
- Vita-Sand is not a replacement for dietary supplement.
